Slater's Funeral Home was founded in 1911 by Alonzo Slater, a contractor and former page in the Georgia State Legislative Assembly. After his death in 1955, his widow Essie Slater and son Richard Jr. continued operating the business until it closed in 1966. That same year, local high school principal Joseph M. Graham and businesspersons Floyd L. and Ruth Evans Griffin Sr. reopened the funeral home, with the Griffins becoming licensed funeral directors and sole owners in 1969.
The funeral home has served Milledgeville and Baldwin County for over a century. Following Floyd Griffin Sr.'s death in 2005 and Ruth Griffin's passing in 2010, the business continues under new ownership while maintaining its long-standing presence in the community.
The facility offers both traditional burial and cremation services. Staff can accommodate cultural and religious funeral traditions according to family preferences.
