Mario Teixeira Jr. purchased Shaw-Buyus Funeral Home in Kearny in 1980, expanding on his acquisition of Buyus Funeral Home in Newark in 1963. A licensed funeral director since 1957 and graduate of The McAllister School of Embalming in New York City, Teixeira went on to acquire Rucki Funeral Home in 1986 and Bernauer Funeral Home in 1988.
The funeral home offers live-streaming services for families unable to attend in person. Teixeira has served the Newark and Kearny communities through leadership roles including First President of the Parish Council of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Past President of the Ironbound Kiwanis Club and Portuguese Continental Union, and commissioner for the Newark Senior Citizens Council during Mayor Gibson's administration.
