Scott Funeral Home and Cremation Services was founded in October 1967 by Larry Ray Scott, a 1963 graduate of San Francisco College of Mortuary Science who continued his education at the University of Puget Sound. The funeral home has served Tacoma families for over five decades and remains family-oriented with four children carrying forward the Scott legacy.
Founder L'Ray Scott was deeply involved in the local community as a member of the Tacoma Urban League and NAACP Tacoma chapter. He founded the Mount Rainier Benevolent Society and created the Culture Club, a program designed to expose inner-city youth to fine arts, classical music, and proper etiquette. Scott was also an accomplished writer whose work appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines throughout his career.
