Schlossberg Chapel was founded in 1920 by Barney "Berl Dov" Schlossberg, who immigrated from Russia in 1898 and began arranging Jewish funerals from his Roxbury home before opening a storefront at 195 Blue Hill Avenue. The business has remained in the Schlossberg family for four generations and is the only historically Jewish funeral home in the Greater Boston area to remain independent and family-owned, while Stanetsky and Levine were acquired by Houston-based SCI Corporation.
