Daniel C. Ross opened Ross Funeral Home in Fairmont in 1931, initially operating on Maple Avenue across from Woodlawn Cemetery. The business relocated twice before settling at its current 801 Fairmont Avenue location in the mid-1950s when Mr. Ross purchased the historic J.E. Watson mansion known as High Gate.
After Daniel Ross died in 1964, his son Robert A. Ross operated the funeral home until his death in 2009. Michael A. Savonarola, affiliated with the business since 1995, now serves as the licensed director in charge and manages operations alongside Mrs. Joan P. Ross, Robert Ross's widow.
The funeral home operates from the former Watson mansion and also offers monument services. The business has maintained a presence on Fairmont Avenue since 1941.
