Robbins Brothers Funeral Home was established in April 1932 in Benton Harbor by Olive Ermin Robbins and her sons Glennarvin Earl Robbins and Raymond Andrew Robbins. The family chose Benton Harbor after touring the Midwest and East Coast in 1931 looking for a location with growth potential, drawing on the experience of Olive's cousins who operated Cursey, McGowan Morsau, one of Chicago's oldest African American funeral homes dating to the 1880s.
Both founding brothers served in World War II, with Glennarvin stationed in the Pacific theater and Raymond in the European theater. Raymond married in 1951 after returning from military service. The funeral home has maintained continuous operation in Benton Harbor for over 90 years, serving families throughout Berrien County.
