Riser Funeral Homes was established in 1934 when Monor Riser and his wife Ruby (Upshaw) Riser moved to Columbia from the Ruston area to provide funeral services for Caldwell Parish residents. Ruby Riser also opened a flower shop alongside the funeral home. In 1974, H. Neil Riser, Sr. and his wife Lillian Gore Riser built the current 6,000-square-foot facility that serves the community today.
Following Neil Riser, Sr.'s death in 1985, Neil Riser, Jr. joined the staff and continued operations with Douglas M. "Buzzy" May until May's passing in 2009. Vicki Smith Riser, wife of Neil Riser, Jr., now serves as a licensed funeral director and office manager. The funeral home operates two locations, with the main facility in Columbia and a second chapel in Olla, Louisiana.
