About Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home
D.F. Sturdivant opened Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in 1940. Dan Walters joined the business in 1949, became manager, purchased a partial interest in 1951, and acquired the funeral home entirely in 1978. The funeral home is now owned and operated by David and Michelle VanHoy.
Reins-Sturdivant has served Independence and the surrounding southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina region continuously since its founding. Services may be held at the funeral home facility, a place of worship, or graveside, with options for private or memorial services according to family preferences and religious traditions.
