About R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home

R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home was established in 1839 by Judge James H. Edgerly, making it the oldest funeral home in New Hampshire. Five generations of the Edgerly family have operated the business from its original location in Rochester, serving the city and surrounding Strafford County area for over 180 years.

Judge Edgerly founded the firm as an undertaking business after learning carriage-making in Farmington and being appointed to Strafford County Superior Court in 1866. The funeral home passed through Royal M. Edgerly, J. Hervey Edgerly (who once owned the world's only complete Colt gun collection), and Royal M. "Rolly" Edgerly Sr. and his brother James H. Edgerly, Jr. Most recently, J. Susan Edgerly served as President and Morgan J. Edgerly as Vice President, continuing the family's long tradition of service to Rochester families.
