About A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors
A.J. Desmond & Sons traces its roots to 1917, when Angus J. McInnes founded a funeral home on Woodward Avenue in Highland Park. Albert J. Desmond joined in 1930, and the firm took the Desmond name as his sons Terry and John entered the business in the 1960s. The company established its Crooks Road location in Troy in 1973, and third-generation family members Kathy Desmond Barr and Kevin Desmond, along with Margaret Desmond, continue the family's involvement today.
In 1991 the firm merged with Vasu, Rodgers & Connell, a Royal Oak funeral home dating to Bill Vasu's 1922 founding on Woodward Avenue, bringing additional decades of local service history into the combined company. A.J. Desmond & Sons now operates multiple locations across Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties, serving Troy, Royal Oak, Berkley, Clawson, Bloomfield Hills, and surrounding communities.
The Woodward Avenue location includes a newly renovated reception hall designed for receptions and gatherings connected to a service, with flexible seating and display space so families can hold the entire event without moving to a second venue.
