Peterson Funeral Home — Funeral Home in Indianola, IA

Peterson Funeral Services was founded in 1946 when Willard and Georgia Peterson purchased Orr Funeral Home in Indianola. Willard served as funeral director after his service in the United States Army, while Georgia worked as a beautician. The couple operated the business for nearly 50 years, raising their three children in the upper floors of the funeral home.

The business is now in its third generation of Peterson family ownership. Jon Peterson, a graduate of the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, expanded the family operation by acquiring Richardson Funeral Home in Carlisle in 1974 and Arnold's Highland Park Funeral Home on 6th Avenue in Des Moines in 1991. He oversees all three locations alongside two of his sons: James Peterson, licensed since 1991, and Kasey Peterson, licensed since 1995.

The funeral home serves families throughout the Des Moines, Carlisle, and Indianola areas. Joe Grandstaff, a licensed pre-planner, joined the staff in 2017. The funeral home provides live-streaming services for families who cannot attend in person.
