Memorial Park Cemetery was established in 1922 by Bernard DeVry, who converted a family farm into a 380-acre burial park featuring flat markers set among marble statuary, flowers, lakes, and thousands of trees. In 1964, H.W. "Bill" DeVry, Jr. acquired the adjacent Green Lawn Cemetery, and Park Lawn Funeral Home was founded that same year at 83rd and Hillcrest.
The funeral home and cemetery complex remains under DeVry family ownership and management, now operating in its fourth generation. Park Lawn has grown to serve the Kansas City metropolitan area with multiple locations, including a facility in Liberty and ownership of both Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson County and Glenridge Cemetery. The business offers pre-planning services alongside traditional funeral and burial options.
