The Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home traces its roots to 1888, when J.G. Fuchs established a furniture store and undertaking business in Jefferson. The business changed hands through several generations—from Adam G. Fuchs to Oscar Hildebrandt in 1926, then to Harry Minshall in 1941, who separated the funeral home from the furniture operation in 1947.
In 1974, Bernie and Mona Olsen purchased the funeral home from Harry Minshall, renaming it Minshall-Olsen Funeral Home. Bernie and Mona were recognized as Jefferson Citizens of the Year in 1981. The Olsen family expanded in 1987 when Bernie purchased the Hickey-Kent Funeral Home in Whitewater, and his eldest son James joined the business, prompting a name change to Olsen Funeral Home at both locations.
The funeral home serves Jefferson County communities including Fort Atkinson, Lake Mills, Cambridge, and Watertown. The business represents over 135 years of continuous operation under local ownership in Jefferson.
