Moody Funeral Service & Crematory traces its roots to 1902, when E. A. Hannah opened a harness and coffin business in Mount Airy. Wade C. Moody joined the firm in 1915, initially caring for the two horses that pulled the funeral coach, and became sole owner in 1927-28 after purchasing Hannah's interests and a partnership with D.E. Nelson. His son Dennis W. Moody joined the business in 1935, later serving as president and expanding operations to include the Dobson location in 1947-48, along with a facility in Stuart, Virginia.
Robert H. Moody, the current president, joined the firm in 1978 and represents the fourth generation of family ownership. The Dobson location operates an on-site crematory and offers tribute videos, keepsakes, and live-streaming capabilities for families who wish to share services with distant relatives and friends.
