About Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service
Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service has been family-owned and operated since 1894, serving the greater Grand Rapids area for five generations. The business began as a horse-drawn hack and hearse livery, with the Metcalf and Jonkhoff families transitioning to a newly built mortuary with motorized vehicles in 1913.
Today the funeral home is led by Samuel C. Metcalf, Samuel H. Metcalf, Michael W. Metcalf, and Robert A. Jonkhoff, continuing more than 130 years of local family ownership in Kent County. The firm provides both traditional burial and cremation services, with options for customized memorial experiences, urn selection, and final disposition including cemetery burial, columbarium placement, and scattering.
