Meridith Funeral Home was established when Jim Meridith purchased Harris Funeral Home in 1976, changing the name in 1979. The business continues as a family operation, now led by the second generation after Jim's retirement in 2016 and passing in 2020. Jim Meridith, the current owner, graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 2004 and holds a business administration degree from McKendree College.
The funeral home represents part of a 150-year legacy of continuous family-owned funeral service in the region. Staff members John Schemerhorn and the licensed professionals serve Highland and the surrounding Madison County communities including Lebanon, Pocahontas, Collinsville, and several other nearby towns. Mary Lou Meridith served as business secretary while raising five children in the funeral home's second-floor residence until her retirement in 2010.
