Menke Funeral & Cremation Center opened on October 17, 1977, in a building that originally served as the United States Post Office for Sun City, becoming the first funeral home located in the community. The funeral home remains family-owned and operated more than 45 years later.

The facility expanded in 1982 with a sixteen-foot addition to the front of the building, creating additional consultation rooms for families. In 1986, Menke purchased the adjacent building, a former furniture store storage area, and converted it into the Sun City Room, which now houses the Menke Reception Hall with a partial kitchen for receptions and memorial gatherings, plus a separate Meeting Room available to Sun City community organizations.

The funeral home established its prearrangement program in 1983, allowing individuals to preplan and prepay funeral arrangements while locking in current pricing on services and merchandise.
