McKee Funeral Home has served families in Hardy County and across West Virginia since 1880, when local carpenter Welby McKee began handcrafting coffins in a small workshop on McKee Hollow Road. Five generations of the McKee family have operated the business, beginning with Welby's sons Lee and Wade, who specialized in oak and walnut coffins in the early 1900s. Wade's niece Betty Dale Snyder joined the business after graduating from Romney High School in 1945.
The first dedicated funeral home facility was built along U.S. Route 50 in 1955 to accommodate the growing preference for holding services outside the home. McKee Funeral Home now operates three locations serving Augusta, Baker, and Romney. The funeral home offers traditional services, direct burial, and cremation, with a full selection of cremation caskets, rental caskets, urns, keepsake urns, and urn vaults available.
