Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes was established in 1964 by Mauro P. Garcia, Sr., a licensed funeral director and embalmer who graduated from Commonwealth College of Sciences in Houston in 1949. The business began as Garcia-Rios Mortuary in 1960 before Mauro Sr. and his wife Ines founded the current funeral home, serving families throughout San Diego, Benavides, and Freer.
In 1971, Mauro P. Garcia, Jr. and his wife Betty Lou joined the family business, followed by daughter Maria D. Garcia Aleman in the late 1980s. The funeral home expanded in 1989 with the opening of a second location in Alice, extending the family's reach throughout Duval County and the surrounding region.
