Matheney Funeral Home traces its roots to 1941, when Don E. Stone purchased George Fawcett's funeral business in Chesterhill. Stone relocated the operation to its current McConnelsville location in 1946 after remodeling the former Jesse Wood home and grocery store building on North Kennebec Avenue. His daughter Susan and her husband Timothy Matheney, a 1966 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, purchased the business in 1974.
The funeral home is owned and operated by third-generation funeral director Rhett Matheney, who graduated from Ohio State University in 1991 and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1995. The family also operates Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill and maintains an on-site crematory. Licensed funeral directors include multiple members of the Matheney family who have served Morgan County families for over eight decades.
