Martinson Funeral Home — Funeral Home in Suttons Bay, MI

Martinson Funeral Home and Cremation Services was founded in 1917 by Martin Martinson and has been operated by four generations of licensed funeral directors from the same family. The funeral home has deep roots in Leelanau County spanning six generations, making it part of the area's history for over a century.

Martin Martinson established and operated Leelanau County's only ambulance service from 1919 to 1975, a tradition continued by his son Raymond and daughter-in-law Millie. Raymond was honored with a rare 60 Years of Funeral Service Award by the Michigan Funeral Directors Association. The current generation, Robert and Kumiko Martinson, transformed the original 1917 structure into the facility that serves families today.

Martin Martinson was a charter founder and 30-year member of the Suttons Bay Board of Education and served as president. He was also a charter founder and president of both the Suttons Bay Rotary and the Suttons Bay Village Council.
