About Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home
Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home traces its roots to 1935, when Charles and Jeanette Maresh opened the original Maresh Funeral Home in Racine before moving the business to 803 Main Street in 1948. Thomas and Barbara Meredith purchased the funeral home in 1972, adding their name after Tom's 12 years at the Strouf-Sheffield Funeral Home in Racine. In 1999 the Acklam Funeral Home joined the business, bringing a Racine service history dating back to 1875 and giving the combined operation more than 130 years of continuous service to the city.
The current building at 803 Main Street dates to 1847 and has passed through several notable owners, including Dr. Julian R. Sims and patent medicine manufacturer Dr. Clarenden Irving Shoop, before its use as a funeral home.
The firm serves Racine and nearby communities including Mount Pleasant, Kenosha, Franklin, and Cudahy, and offers a Life Story program that writes and preserves a written biography for each family served.
