Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home traces its origins to 1937, when William and Agnes Moody established Moody Funeral Home in downtown Alma. The business moved to its current location at 531 N. State Street in the early 1940s, where Agnes Moody became a licensed funeral director and continued operations with employee William Wolfel after her husband's death in 1955.
William Wolfel purchased the funeral home in 1961, operating it as Moody-Wolfel until 1980 when Charles R. Lux Sr. and his son Paul acquired the business. The Lux family retained all previous owners' names in recognition of their legacy of service to Gratiot County families.
Over three decades, the Lux family expanded to include funeral homes in Middleton, Riverdale, Carson City, Crystal, Breckenridge, and Saint Louis. In 2013, Nicholas and Laura Lux assumed ownership, representing the third generation of family operation.
