About Lowndes Funeral Home & Crematory
Tim Pounders founded Lowndes Funeral Home & Crematory with his wife Dawn and parents E.G. and Betty Pounders, opening the facility on August 1, 1997. Their son Caleb Pounders joined the business in 2012 after completing mortuary school. The 11,500 square foot facility includes a 200-seat chapel, two parlors, casket selection room, and ample parking.
In 2007, the funeral home constructed Lowndes County's only on-site crematory—the first within a 60-mile radius of Columbus to offer on-site cremation services. The business has expanded multiple times since opening, adding office space and a pre-need counseling room in 2012, expanding the cremation facility in 2016, and installing an additional retort in 2021.
Lowndes Funeral Home serves families throughout Lowndes County, West Alabama, and surrounding areas including Aberdeen, West Point, and Vernon.
