Life Story Funeral Home opened in April 2008 and is owned and operated by Vaughn Seavolt, a licensed funeral director with nearly two decades of experience. Seavolt, a graduate of Olivet College who also attended Wayne State, founded the funeral home at 400 Hammond Road West to bring what he calls the Life Story Experience to Traverse City and the Grand Traverse area.

The funeral home takes a contemporary approach focused on writing and preserving detailed life stories for each person served, which are shared during services and archived for future generations. The facility is designed without traditional features like casket selection rooms or funeral drapes, reflecting a more modern, tech-friendly environment for celebration-of-life services.
