LaHayne Funeral Home traces its origins to 1935, when Earl and Luella Snyder opened Snyder Funeral Home in Hammond. Elden V. LaHayne joined the staff in 1950 and purchased the business with his wife Edith in 1965, renaming it Snyder-LaHayne Funeral Home. Their son Elden B. LaHayne became part of the firm in 1970, and the name changed to LaHayne Funeral Home in 1979.
The funeral home incorporated as a family business in 1981 with Elden V., Edith, Elden B., and his wife Mary Anne. In 1994, the LaHaynes expanded by acquiring Dalton and Son Funeral Home, which had been established in the early 1920s. The funeral home serves families throughout Northwest Indiana and Southeast Cook County, Illinois.
