Joynes Funeral Home was founded in 1938 by Henry W. Joynes, a licensed funeral director from Cheriton, Virginia, who settled in Warrenton with his wife Augustine. During its early decades, the firm operated three locations in Warrenton, Falls Church, and Washington, D.C., and was one of only two African-American owned funeral homes in Northern Virginia at the time.
The business has remained in the Joynes family for three generations. George Woodson Joynes, son of the founder, joined the firm in the 1960s and oversaw the construction of a new facility at the current North Third Street location in Warrenton. In 1987, Darryl Joynes became the third generation to join the family business.
With more than 88 years serving Warrenton and the surrounding Northern Virginia area, the funeral home offers traditional funeral ceremonies, graveside services, and various payment options including major credit cards and financing arrangements.
