The funeral home traces its roots to 1913, when Irwin J. VanGorder conducted his first service from the original location on 5th Street. Joseph A. Tomon Jr. and his wife purchased the business in 1979 from P.O. Contrucci, operating there for 25 years before relocating to a new facility in 2004. The funeral home served families from the 5th Street location for 88 years through three different Ellwood City families and four generations of funeral directors.

In 2004, the Tomon family built a new facility that became the first funeral home in the Ellwood area to include an on-site crematory. The crematory has since performed over 7,000 cremations, making the funeral home a local specialist in cremation services. Joseph A. Tomon Jr. is a licensed funeral director in Pennsylvania, where state law requires funeral directors to hold licenses to sell funeral and cremation services.
