Johnson Funeral Home was founded in October 1976 by Zeb Johnson, who served as the original owner and sole funeral director. The funeral home began with one chapel and two staterooms, expanding in 2000 to add a second chapel, family lounge, and additional office space. In 2001, the Johnson family built the Lake Charles Crematory facility, now the largest crematory operator in Southwest Louisiana, serving families from five parishes.

Zeb Johnson remains actively involved in daily operations after 52 years in funeral service, working alongside Graham Hankins to lead a staff of 60 funeral professionals. The 17,000-square-foot facility underwent a complete interior renovation in spring 2017, updating flooring, furnishings, multimedia systems, and fixtures throughout. The funeral home serves Lake Charles, Iowa, Moss Bluff, Sulphur, Westlake, Vinton, Hackberry, DeQuincy, Carlyss, and other Calcasieu Parish communities with funeral, burial, memorial, and cremation services, including specialized veterans honors programs.
