James E. Humphrey Funeral Home — Funeral Home in Pottsville, PA

James E. Humphrey Funeral Home was founded by Jim Humphrey, a first-generation funeral director who served Schuylkill County for over 40 years before his passing in 2019. Jim began working in funeral service at age 16, graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1974, and received his Pennsylvania funeral director's license in 1975. A United States Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972, he established the funeral home in 1983 after becoming supervisor of the former Allen Funeral Home.

The funeral home has been serving Pottsville and surrounding communities including Schuylkill Haven, Minersville, Port Carbon, Marlin, Seltzer, and St. Clair for over 35 years. Now under the leadership of Jim's son, the business continues to operate with the same founding philosophy of guiding families without pressuring them toward uncomfortable decisions. Jim was actively involved in the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and numerous community organizations throughout his career.

The funeral home offers both traditional burial and cremation services, with options for caskets, urns, and cemetery monuments available on-site. Veterans receive special attention in recognition of the founder's military service.
