About Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home
Ole Hoplin and his brother-in-law David Nelson founded the business in 1916 when they purchased the Lowry Hardware, Furniture and Machinery Company, initially operating as Hoplin-Nelson Hardware, Furniture and Undertaking. Ole Hoplin received his embalmer's license from the University of Minnesota in 1920, and the firm built a dedicated funeral home in Lowry in 1927 with a preparation room and service space.
Oliver Hoplin joined the business after receiving his funeral directing and embalming license in 1936. In 1946, Oliver partnered with his father Ole and uncles David and Olaf Nelson to purchase the Berry Funeral Home in Glenwood, expanding their service area. The Glenwood location added a large chapel and lobby in 1962.
Oliver and his brother Donald operated the business together for many years, also running the local ambulance service. The funeral home has maintained locations in both Glenwood and Brooten, with the Brooten chapel serving families in Stearns County and the surrounding area.
