About Hilgenfeld Mortuary
Hilgenfeld Mortuary was founded by Reverend Samuel Hilgenfeld in 1927, making it one of Anaheim's oldest funeral homes. The business has remained family owned through four generations: Reverend Samuel's son Melvin joined as second generation, followed by Melvin's daughter Margie Hilgenfeld Field as president in 1987, and her daughter Becky Field Areias who became president in 2015.
The facility operates from a 1940s-era building whose original architectural design has been preserved for over 80 years. Staff members are multilingual, with Spanish and German spoken on premises. The mortuary maintains an extensive historical collection of funeral industry materials and memorabilia spanning a century, displayed on site for visitors.
The business originated from a 1925 partnership between Reverend Hilgenfeld and a partner named Rollins in Brea, later acquiring the Huddle Funeral Home of Anaheim which had been established in 1920 at Lemon and Broadway.
