Higginbotham Funeral Home — Funeral Home in Cross Plains, TX

Higginbotham Funeral Home began serving Cross Plains in 1914 as the Undertaking Department inside Higginbotham Bro. & Co. General Merchants. The current funeral home building was constructed in 1968 and features a spacious chapel with custom wood paneling. Until 1976, the funeral home also operated the only 24-hour ambulance service in the area.

Bob Harrell, the current Funeral Director and Manager, has served families in Cross Plains and surrounding communities since 1982. Higginbotham Funeral Homes of Texas is part of a family corporation that dates back to 1881 in Dublin and now operates thirteen locations across Central Texas, including Gorman, Comanche, Stephenville, Robinson, Waco, Cleburne, Burleson, and Joshua. The hardware firms and funeral homes became separate corporations in 2000, with Higginbotham descendants remaining majority stockholders.

Ryan Ramsower, who manages one of the family's Waco locations, represents the fifth generation of Higginbothams in the funeral business. The funeral home's tree-covered lawn provides a homelike setting for families in Callahan County.
