About Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home

Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home is part of Hamilton's Funeral Home, a family-owned operation serving Iowa families since 1913. The business was founded by Lee Hamilton, who purchased the R.R. McBride Funeral Home in Des Moines and renamed it Hamilton's in 1925. By 1940, Lee brought on his son-in-law Ira Moller and employee Ardis Peterson as partners to handle the growing number of families served.

After Lee Hamilton's death in 1956, the business continued to expand while maintaining its founding values. Hamilton's has been a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau since 1940. The funeral home relocated to its current Des Moines location at 605 Lyon Street in 1969 and has since grown to become one of the largest family-owned funeral homes in Iowa.

Hamilton's offers an Academy of Grief and Loss, providing grief resources, education, and support for all ages. The funeral home also hosts advance planning workshops, including periodic luncheon events where families can learn about the pre-planning process at no cost.
