Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel was established on September 23, 1944, when Heath and Blanche Griffiths purchased the Bergmeyer Funeral Home. In 1956, the firm built the first facility in Beatrice designed specifically as a funeral home at 708 North 6th Street on the corner of U.S. Highway 77 and Washington Streets.
Dick Hovendick joined Heath and Blanche Griffiths in 1960, followed by third-generation licensed funeral director and embalmer Rich Hovendick in 1978. Samantha Thompson represents the fourth generation of the family, joining the firm in 2016. Dick Hovendick, Rich Hovendick, and his wife Linda currently own the funeral home.
The facility features a chapel with seating for over 100 people, added in 2013. The firm operates multiple locations including chapels in Adams, the complete facility in Beatrice, Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt, and Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore, managed by Samantha Thompson since 2016. Services include live-streaming and recording capabilities.
