Gilmartin Funeral Home was founded in 1955 by Darwin Gilmartin at 242 West Main Street in Batavia. The business relocated in 1973 to a purpose-built facility at 329 West Main Street, designed for accessibility and comfort. Darwin's son-in-law, Timothy D. Woodward, a graduate of Simmons School of Mortuary Science, joined the firm in 1977 and purchased it in 1986.
Timothy J. "TJ" Woodward, also a Simmons graduate, joined full-time in 2003 and became owner in 2011. In 2023, the business transitioned to Justin D. Calarco-Smith and Steven L. Johnson of H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, with TJ Woodward remaining as managing funeral director to maintain continuity of service.
The funeral home serves families throughout Genesee County, including Batavia, Le Roy, Corfu, Bergen, and surrounding communities. Services include traditional burial, cremation with memorial options, tribute videos, keepsakes, and live streaming for remote family and friends.
