Drew J. Gilbert, a first-generation funeral director, established Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in 1989 in a beautifully restored 1880s brick mansion originally built by prominent brick manufacturer Cassius M. C. Harper. The historic building in the Boston section of Elizabeth Township features original Red Oak woodwork, pocket doors, stained glass windows, and crystal chandeliers that create a home-like atmosphere.

The funeral home operates a state-of-the-art on-site crematory, installed in 1997, with a second unit added in 2007 to accommodate the growing number of families choosing cremation. Having the crematory in the same facility ensures that families' loved ones never leave the funeral home's direct care throughout the entire process.

In 2016, Drew Gilbert expanded by opening a second location in White Oak, supervised by his son Troy J. Gilbert, a second-generation funeral director. The family-owned operation serves the Monongahela Valley communities near Unknown, including Elizabeth Township, White Oak, and surrounding Allegheny County areas.
