Drew J. Gilbert, a first-generation funeral director, founded Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in 1989 after purchasing and restoring an 1880s brick mansion originally built by brick manufacturer Cassius M. C. Harper in the Boston section of Elizabeth Township. The restoration preserved original red oak woodwork and pocket doors while adding stained glass windows and crystal chandeliers to maintain a home-like atmosphere. The funeral home installed a state-of-the-art crematory on-site in 1997, adding a second unit in 2007 to meet growing demand, ensuring that families' loved ones never leave their care throughout the entire process.

In 2016, Drew expanded the business by opening a second location in White Oak, supervised by his oldest son Troy J. Gilbert, a second-generation funeral director. Both locations offer traditional funeral services, cremation, graveside services, and pre-planning programs, along with Return and Transfer Assured Services for families dealing with death or burial away from home.
