Foston Funeral Home opened in August 1938 as a partnership between local entrepreneur Herman W. Foston and Nashville funeral director C.A. Dowdy. The business originally operated at the corner of Tenth and Franklin Streets, moved to 838 Franklin Street in 1942, and has been at its current Franklin Street location since 1980.

During its early decades, the funeral home served as more than a funeral service provider for the African American community in Clarksville, functioning as a resource center that provided food, clothing assistance, housing referrals, personal loans, and support for local school children. The firm operated a fleet of up to twelve automobiles to transport residents to medical facilities and other essential services, eventually expanding into the Minute Man Cab Company to meet transportation needs.

After Herman Foston's death in 1949, his sister Louise became manager and later owner. The funeral home offers both traditional burial and cremation services, with options ranging from full funeral services to private memorial gatherings. Services can be personalized with tribute videos, keepsakes, and live streaming capabilities for distant family and friends.
