Frank R. Fitzgerald founded this funeral home in 1914 after attending Barnes School of Anatomy and Embalming and working eight years at Brett Funeral Home in Milwaukee. The business moved through three Rockford locations before establishing its current operation, and during World War I held the government contract to handle deaths at Camp Grant, preparing hundreds of soldiers during the 1918 flu epidemic for their final journey home.

Bob Fitzgerald joined his father in 1949 after attending Worsham College of Mortuary Science, continuing the family operation that now serves Rockford, Belvidere, and Freeport. The funeral home operates an on-site crematory and recently received the Pursuit of Excellence Award from the National Funeral Directors Association, placing it among the top 2% of funeral care providers worldwide based on professional standards and community outreach.
