Farris Funeral Service — Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA

Farris Funeral Service was established in 1918 when D.R. "Rybe" Henderson purchased a country general store in Saltville. Mark Farris married into the Henderson family, and in 1952, Mark and Sally Farris moved to Abingdon to establish a branch location, later purchasing it outright and renaming the firm Farris Funeral Service in 1974. David M. Farris and his wife Barbara bought the business from his parents in 1982, and during the 1990s and early 2000s, they shared management with their three children as the business expanded to add a second location and an on-site crematory.

The firm is now in its fifth generation of family ownership. In August 2022, David Farris II and his wife Sonya returned to lead the business after a ten-year absence. Sonya has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 2008, and together they bring over 45 years of combined funeral and cemetery management experience. They represent the fourth husband-wife management team in the company's history.

The funeral home serves families in Abingdon, Bristol, and Glade Spring, maintaining two locations across the region.
