Howard Dysart founded Dysart Chapel in 1919 after graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, relocating to 208 S. McCoy Street in January 1935. Robert L. Cofoid joined the business in June 1935 as a fellow Worsham graduate and purchased the funeral home from Mr. Dysart in 1952, expanding the facilities to incorporate adjacent buildings.
The Cofoid family has operated the funeral home for over 70 years across multiple generations. Bobby Cofoid, a 1986 Worsham graduate and Putnam County High School alumnus, worked alongside his father from apprenticeship through 2001 and continues the family tradition today. The facility has undergone numerous renovations to expand services and accommodate evolving family preferences.
The funeral home serves Granville and surrounding Putnam County communities including Henry, Lacon, and Princeton. Both traditional funeral services and cremation are available, with staff prepared to honor specific cultural and religious funeral traditions.
