Jordan Dunaway and Juanita Douglass Dunaway founded the family's funeral service tradition in the late 1920s, opening their first location at 4286 West Broadway in Hawthorne during the Great Depression. The business expanded through three generations of family ownership, with brothers-in-law Phillip Douglass and Sam Douglass Sr. joining the firm after Jordan attended the Los Angeles College of Mortuary Science.

Sam Douglass Jr. joined in 1950 while attending the University of Southern California, graduating in 1958 and bringing his wife Jacque Fisher Douglass into the firm. The Hawthorne location opened in 1958 and has served the community for over 75 years. The funeral home operates an on-site crematory and offers both traditional funeral and cremation services to families throughout Hawthorne, El Segundo, and surrounding Los Angeles County communities.
