Croley Funeral Home was established in 1883 by J.F. Croley, who began offering undertaking services through his hardware store in 1890. The current funeral home facility was built in 1946-1947 by Croley Cook, nephew of the founder, and features a chapel with seating capacity of 200. A larger chapel was added in 1979 during facility renovations.
The business has expanded to serve East Texas communities with additional locations established in Gladewater in 1995, Diana, and Hawkins. In 1999, the funeral home acquired the former Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home operation, which had served Upshur and portions of Camp, Wood, Marion, Cass, Gregg, and Smith counties since 1954. The Grubbs-Loyd location originated as Loyd-Fike Funeral Home in downtown Gilmer before relocating to Highway 271.
