About Combest Family Funeral Homes
Combest Family Funeral Homes traces its roots to 1962 when Martin and Billie White purchased Stanley Funeral Home in Tahoka. After Martin White's unexpected death in 1972, Billie White continued operating the business and earned her funeral director's license in 1959. Rufus Gerner joined the staff in 1973 and remains on staff today.
The business expanded throughout the region during the 1980s and 1990s, opening locations in O'Donnell, Idalou in 1987, and Lubbock in 1995 when the former Henderson Funeral Home on Broadway became available. Billie White-Everett later passed ownership to her nephew Kevin Combest and his wife Tonya, who previously owned Combest-Miller Mortuary and Crematory Service from 1999 to 2007.
The funeral home operates multiple chapel locations serving Lubbock, Tahoka, Idalou, and O'Donnell. Kevin and Tonya Combest were active participants in developing new crematory legislation, culminating in the passage of House Bill 56 during the 80th Legislative Session in July 2007. The business offers an on-site crematory and provides live-streaming services for families.
