Collins Funeral Home traces its roots to 1924, when Malachi Collins and Mary A. Collins purchased the funeral service business from G. F. Frazier, who had operated at 406 North Farish Street since 1903. The funeral home maintains records dating back to 1903 and established the Collins Burial Insurance Company in 1925. Malachi Collins had previously co-founded Hall and Collins Funeral Home in Hattiesburg in the late 1880s, recognized as the first African-American owned funeral home serving the African-American community in that city.
