About Birk Funeral Home
Birk Funeral Home in Canby became part of Darren and Jessica Houseman's ownership group in 2005, with the Housemans becoming sole owners in 2010 after merging five locations into one business. Darren Houseman, a licensed funeral director, earned his Mortuary Science Degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1995 and holds an insurance license to assist families with prefunding and pre-arranged funeral plans.
Houseman served as Deuel County Coroner from 2002 to 2020 and currently serves as Deputy Coroner, alongside involvement with the Canby Rotary Club and the Canby Blue & Gold Foundation, where he served as President. The funeral home serves Canby and surrounding Yellow Medicine County families with both at-need and pre-arrangement funeral planning.
