Bevil Bros. Funeral Home traces its history to 1915, when Edgar F. Duke founded the Duke Funeral Home in Dundee. After Edgar Duke's passing in 1956, his sons Hugh E. Duke Sr., Hugh E. Duke Jr., and Thomas B. Duke expanded operations with a Centertown chapel in 1962 and the acquisition of Birkhead Funeral Home in Hartford in 1966. In 1986, Larry and Kathy Bevil and Jerry and Judy Bevil purchased the business, renaming it Duke-Bevil Funeral Home and later Bevil Bros. Funeral Homes, Inc.
In 2000, the funeral home opened a new facility in Beaver Dam featuring two spacious chapels, a kitchen, and a lounge area. Following a fire that destroyed the Hartford chapel in 2012, all operations were consolidated to the Beaver Dam location. In March 2025, after more than 40 years of ownership, Larry and Jerry Bevil retired and sold the business to Ohio County native John Hill, who continues the funeral home's century-long tradition of service to area families.
