Barnes Funeral Home was founded in 1920 by L.P. Barnes and his wife Amelia Miller Barnes after they purchased the Andrew Coffman Funeral Home. L.P. Barnes held Ohio Funeral Directors License Number 70, making him one of the first licensed funeral directors in the state after graduating from Myers College of Embalming School in Columbus in 1906. The business has remained in the Barnes family for over a century, with sons Walter M. and Robert W. Barnes continuing operations after L.P. Barnes retired in 1952.
