The business was founded by Robert Evans, succeeded by his son Jeffrey Evans, and joined by John William Askew in the early 1920s. Operating as Evans & Askew Undertakers, it later became Askew-Houser Funeral Home and incorporated in 1986.
The firm has remained in the Askew family across multiple generations, with John William Askew's sons George, Phillip, and John Wayne all associated with the business. John Wayne Askew succeeded his father in 1954 and continued the family tradition of service in Ebensburg and the surrounding region.
